CBN GOVERNOR:- GODWIN EMEFIELE THANKS EVERYONE OVER FREED WIFE
Mr Godwin Emefiele, governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has praised the security agencies for their gallantry in bringing his wife, Margaret back home within 24 hours.
This, he said, was in compliance with the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Emefiele also thanked the Delta and Edo State governments, friends and well-wishers, who through their actions, prayers and goodwill, helped to bring this harrowing experience to a joyful end.
Margaret Emefiele, who was kidnapped on Thursday by armed men on Benin-Agbor road, was
rescued from the hands of kidnappers on Friday night by the Nigerian security agencies. Earlier report had said she was released early today.
The Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Isaac Okorafor, stated that the CBN governor’s wife confirmed that she was rescued on Friday night.
Okoroafor did not state whether any ransom was paid.
The kidnappers had made contact with the CBN governor, demanding a N100million in ransom.
According to family sources Margaret was rescued by a combined team of security agencies; Army and Police, at Ugoneki near Benin City.
To stem kidnapping in the state, the government of Edo enacted a law prescribing death penalty on kidnappers.
Okoroafor said despite the kidnapping trauma, the CBN Governor has reaffirmed his resolve to continue to serve the nation diligently, without any fear of intimidation.
